From Fey Accompli:

the problem with command and control-style government, or central planning, is that planners fool themselves into thinking that they’re responsible for each new cell in the growth of the potato, and if they’re not, then they should be. they suddenly become patholigically risk-averse. what if some of them grow weird bumps? what if they’re not the right color? what if some of them die??

here’s a tip, Sergei: democracy is not the potato. people are the potatoes and the flowers and the wild, vibrant growth of a healthy garden. a framework of governing such as democracy is what ensures that the conditions are best for that growth.

Yeah. What she said.
