Texas state agencies spend as much as $50 million a year too much for electricity because they haven't taken the government's own advice to shop around. ...

So the state's Council on Competitive Government this year hired electricity consultant LPB Energy of Dallas to help agencies find lower rates. The council expects the company to trim the state's $200 million average annual utility costs by as much as 25 percent by switching providers and auditing past bills for errors, said council director Jim Scogin.

From a Dallas Morning News story by Elizabeth Souder.
