N.Y. Ends Scalping Laws

The other day Greg Mankiw noted that New York has passed a law ending limits on prices that ticket scalpers can charge. I wish Governor Spitzer were as pro-competition in electricity markets as he is in event ticket markets ... although in the grand scheme of things, New York's retail competition is more active than in most states, except for Texas. But barriers to competition still exist, and if he and his team chipped away at those barriers the way they have chipped away at this ticket scalping barrier, think of the potential net benefit creation for customers that would come from dynamic pricing and product differentiation ...
